Kid Nation Recap: 11/28/07

Posted by Faith W on November 29, 2007

(by Deb Porter-Jones)

Today’s lesson is entitled, “A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste.”

Tonight’s episode opens with the Town Council bringing some mail from home for our little Taylor (what a stubborn child she is; if she doesn’t slow down and listen, she may end up like Brittany).  Taylor promises to do some work around the town if they let her read her mail from home.  The Council adds a condition: if she reneges on her agreement, she forfeits this week’s challenge award is for the town.  Of course, Taylor agrees, and then Taylor reneges (so typically Taylor!).

The kids are given the option to read some books for this week’s challenge.  Of course, Taylor’s not interested (“I hate to read!” she exclaims in that familiar, spoiled little Texas drawl of hers).  Several of the children actually enjoy learning about the history of Bonanza City, but these aren’t your average children.

 Challenge!

This week’s challenge consists of putting everything the children have learned about Bonanza City into practice.  They are asked a bunch of questions, the answers of which were contained in the history books that they were to read.  They had to use slingshots to hit balloons that listed the wrong answers to the questions. If the kids had enough ammo to fill a large jar after all was said and done, they would get the award for the town.

Green won Upper Class, Blue won Merchants, Yellow won Cooks and Red won the Laborers.  They were disappointed, but all put forth great effort.  They did end up having enough ammo left over to win the town award, which was awesome.  They had to choose from a collection of books for Bonanza City’s own Library or a totally 100% gratis arcade, outfitted with everything from video games to Dance Challenge to Air Hockey!

Of course, kids will be kids, and the Town Council chose the arcade.  But was it the right decision?

Taylor finally broke down and did a TON of dishes in order to get into the arcade, with the help of Hunter.  Amazing what that child will do when the right incentive is placed in front of her!  She did what she had to do to get into the arcade, but did she learn a lesson from it?  Methinks not.  But we’ll see.

Sophia was really upset the next day when it appeared the whole town spent the night in the arcade.  None of the dishes were done and no one made breakfast for the town (a new responsibility which fell on the Yellow team – Blaine’s domain).  Sophia was super-upset (she finds arcades chaotic and prefers the makeshift Bonanza City Library that she made herself).  Blaine and Greg were preoccupied with a game of pool (the results of which they were gambling about – and we thought this was a family show!).

Sophia and DK expressed some really valid concerns about the town’s preoccupation with the arcade.  None of the work is getting done and it’s getting out of hand.  A decision is made to place a padlock on the arcade until all of the daily chores are completed.  Of course, this isn’t a popular decision, but ultimately everyone seems to understand its importance.

Hooray!  Hunter wins the Gold Star!  What a great kid he is! His parents should be very proud.  He appears really appreciative and gives props to his Pops!

Mike Duntz Live Q & A Tonight 11/28/07

Posted by Chris on November 28, 2007

For all of you who may not remember Mike was part of the first alliance of the BB8 season consisting of himself, Kail, Nick, and Zach. The alliance was pretty short lived mainly because in week 2 they had no power and in week three they were targeted by Dick and ultimately turned on each other to save their own butts.

The only truly loyal person was Mike and his loyalty turn out to be his undoing when he purposely annoyed Dick during the veto competition causing to put him up on the chopping block resulting in him being sent home.

Tonight you can ask Mike about his game play strategies and what he would’ve done differently if he had another chance during his live Q & A at 7pm pst on Jokersupdates.com

I LOVE NEW YORK 2 RECAP: 11/26/07

Posted by Faith W on November 27, 2007

(by Deb Porter-Jones)

Heads up, folks. After last week’s episode, everything just seems to fall flat. No eye-opening discoveries, no one’s getting outted this time.

This week’s episode begins with New York reaching out to Buddha and trying to make sure that he’s forgiven her for the questionable behavior that she exhibited with Chance and Real during the last episode. Buddha does a less-than-convincing job of putting her mind at ease. He spends most of the episode playing this game – so tired. When he’s not playing hard to get, he’s discussing his acting career (scenes on Nip/Tuck and Hell Date).

But first things first: The guys and New York are sent to a psych technician/handwriting expert who gives them Rorschach (inkblot) tests and other tests that are meant to determine which guy is most compatible with New York

Punk sees a woman’s private area (so do we; it’s only logical). Mr. Wise’s pictures seem to indicate that he is emotionally unavailable. Punk, while muscular as all HELL, also has a sweet feminine side, which is rather attractive. He sees flowers and pretty women. Buddha thinks each picture is “really cool” and draws locks (on his heart) which indicate that he is a strong male with a strong side and, surprisingly enough, a feminine side. The tech confirms something I already knew: Tailor Made has a HUGE feminine side and is turned on by being dominated – surprised, anyone? (Not I, said the Little Red Hen. I always thought he should have been wearing the black leather and the dog collar, not Cheezy). Entertainer sees devils (in every picture, strange huh?) which shows that he has a huge narcissistic streak that rivals New York’s, which could present a problem. They both want to be the driver. Oh, and Entertainer is fine with being the stay-at-home dad. New York would love to have him be her bee-otch!

Punk apologizes to the doc for not dressing appropriately to which New York and the shrink does not complain. New York Strokes Punk’s chin and proclaims “I do like this one, Doc.” (Like he was a puppy in a pet store window!) Punk announces that he would rather his sensitivity be cherished that he be respected. This works out great because New York wants the absolute opposite!

It comes out that Buddha is a man’s man, wants to be respected and wants the woman to basically fall back. New York has a bit of a problem with that – why can’t SHE wear the pants and the bustier in the family?? (Methinks there may be the makings of a problem here.)

Anyway, because Entertainer’s narcissistic and happy drawings essentially mirror hers – New York and Entertainer get some alone time together. They have a lovely date and New York even manages to convince Entertainer to dance with the belly dancer at the restaurant. When they leave, they decide to prank the remaining guys and pretend that their date was a bust and as a result, he’s leaving. The guys also plan to prank Entertainer with evidence of more spirits running amok in the house. Both pranks fall flat.

New York gives Mr. Wise the boot (he’s emotionally unavailable, remember?) because he’s still got feelings for his ex-girlfriend Kia. Plus, Wise wouldn’t agree to cut Kia loose if he were to get together with New York because he “doesn’t believe in burning bridges.” He’s clearly a man who knows that this fantasy reality show thing is only temporary.

Somehow, Buddha is still able to last another week even after he is heard openly discussing his acting career with the other guys AND Tailor Made’s wife sees him on BET’s Hell Date. Does he have an agenda? Or is he really here for New York? We’ll see.

Video of Ezra “Buddha” Masters On Another Dating Show

Posted by Faith W on November 27, 2007

Those of you who have been living under a rock for the past few months finally found out last night on I Love New York 2 that Buddha is an actor. Apparently, Tailor Made’s wife saw him on BET’s Hell Date, and this piece of news was worth about 5 minutes of Tiffany Pollard airtime drama.

Here he is on Lifetime’s dating show, Gay, Straight or Taken:

Did Brad Womack Really Want Bettina?

Posted by Faith W on November 27, 2007

According to an article on E! a reliable source has said that the actual reason that Bachelor Brad did not pick either of the finalists is because he actually cut the woman he wanted.

The source says that Brad would have chosen Bettina, who actually made it to the final four, but when he visited her parents, her father treated him so poorly that he felt that he couldn’t pick her. Which would make total sense if he intended to move into the parents’ house after the show and live with the dad. But that is the reason, according to an anonymous source.

Kid Nation Recap 11/21

Posted by Faith W on November 27, 2007

(by Deb Porter-Jones)

Kid Nation is under new management!

This episode presents a totally new Town Council.  In a surprising upset, Greg is voted rep for the Blue District, replacing Anjay (who seems relieved about this turn of events).  Laurel is having difficulty adjusting to civilian life when she is replaced by Michael ( or Plato, as I call him: pearls of wisdom spring forth from this kid; it’s quite amazing).  Blaine is voted rep for the Yellow District, replacing Zach.  DK skates in because Guylan has informed the Red District that he no longer wants the seat.

Bonanza City is then given communication training.  DK lectures everyone on the importance of coming together as a town.  Then all anarchy breaks loose!

Blaine, Greg, and DK eavesdrop on the Green District trashing them and their leadership skills.  They decide to rebel by doing what the Green District sarcastically suggest: sit in the middle of town and hand out compliments.  They are confronted by the Green District who is offended and it seems, and rather embarrassed that their mean words were heard by outsiders.  Michael gets really upset and admits that he was intimidated by the Twin Towers (Greg and Blaine) and hesitated to confront them.  But no longer! Some cruel words are spoken, and everyone separates rather heated.

The new regime decides to make up with Michael and all is forgiven.

DK presents Taylor with an ultimatum: either decide to do some work, or suffer the consequences.  Taylor announces that she is going home because she’s disappointed that her friend Rayna went home, and she’s thinking about going home because they made a pact that if one leaves, the other will, too.  She refuses to do any work “right now”, of course.  You gotta love that Taylor; ever the defiant one.

The kids are surprised with letters from home for the first time in 30 days, which goes a long way towards lifting morale.  Zach gets homesick and the new Town Council does their best to console him and remind him how important he is to Bonanza City.

Challenge!

The kids have to complete a challenge consisting of balancing pies on “pie-holders” and transporting them without dropping them. Then they must organize inventions involving communication (typewriter, television, telephone, etc.) based on what was invented first.   It’s funny listening to the children’s ideas about when these items were invented, especially since none of them were born yet and don’t appear to know what some of them are!  Blaine thinks that the phonograph takes CDs – how cute!

Gold Star Ceremony

The newly-elected Town Council solicits ideas for who deserves the Gold Star, and surprisingly enough, several children thought the award should go to no one.  Their reasoning was based on the fact that they felt no one stood out enough to deserve it.  And they even consider giving the award to no one, to send a message that everyone needs to step it up a bit.  Several children did nominate Laurel, and one child even suggested that maybe she shouldn’t get it because since she lost her spot on the Town Council, she seemed to have also lost her motivation.  Laurel expresses her sense of loss and direction since she was voted out of the Town Council.  In the end, they awarded the Gold Star to Laurel, as a reward for all of her hard work and selfless devotion to Bonanza City, and as motivation to continue.  It’s nice to see how excited and thankful she is to receive the award.  Good job, Laurel!

SCI FI’S GHOST HUNTERS INTERNATIONAL TO PREMIERE JANUARY 9

Posted by Faith W on November 24, 2007

(the following is a press release)

All-New Original Reality Series is First Spin-Off of Hit ‘Ghost Hunters’

NEW YORK – November 20, 2007 – SCI FI’s newest original reality series, Ghost Hunters International, will premiere on the Channel on Wednesday, January 9 @ 9 PM ET/PT. Currently in production in Europe, this spin-off of the smash hit reality series Ghost Hunters will follow the adventures of a new team of paranormal investigators as they apply their principles of scientific debunking to some of the most legendary haunted spots around the world.

In the chilling premiere episode, the team heads to Scotland, embarking on a terrifying investigation into the abandoned depths of Mary King’s Close. This underground phenomenon, a warren of vaults and tunnels, was once teeming with destitute inhabitants at the turn of the 19th century. Now, Mary King’s Close is considered one of Scotland’s most haunted locales. From there, the team sets out to uncover the secrets behind claims of restless young spirits at the notoriously haunted Ragged School of Edinburgh, a former residence for impoverished children.

Like their U.S. counterpart, TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), Ghost Hunters International is a squad of real-life ghost-hunting experts – ordinary people who investigate and attempt to debunk claims of otherworldly activity. Comprised of veteran TAPS investigators Robb Demarest, Andy Andrews, Brian Harnois and Donna La Croix, along with Barry Fitzgerald (memorable from the Ghost Hunters’ legendary investigations in Ireland) and newcomer Shannon Sylvia, the Ghost Hunters International crew is primed to uncover some of the most startling paranormal evidence yet!

Ghost Hunters International is produced in association with Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Films and Television (American Chopper, Dirty Jobs, The Ultimate Fighter). Piligian and Thomas Thayer, along with Rob Katz and Alan David, serve as executive producers.

In 2004, SCI FI introduced Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson – plumbers by day, Ghost Hunters by night! Ghost Hunters has enjoyed its best season ever this fall, achieving record-breaking ratings in the weeks leading up to (and following) the successful Ghost Hunters Live on Halloween night. With a 2.1 Household rating and over 2.8 million viewers from 9-11pm, Ghost Hunters Live was the most-watched cable program for Adults 25-54, ranked second for Adults 18-49 and drove SCI FI to its best Wednesday prime performance in the 18-49 demographic since 2002 (Taken). The Halloween results show the following week ended the season with the best ratings for a regular series episode. Season 4 of Ghost Hunters will return in 2008.

SCI FI Channel is a television network where “what if” is what’s on. SCI FI fuels the imagination of viewers with original series and events, blockbuster movies and classic science fiction and fantasy programming, as well as a dynamic Web site (www.scifi.com ) and magazine. Launched in 1992, and currently in 93 million homes, SCI FI Channel is a network of NBC Universal, one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies.
